We don't collect your data.
This policy covers votecastingcouch.com and the Vote-Casting Couch apps for Apple TV and Samsung TVs.
No accounts, no tracking
There are no accounts, ad trackers or tracking cookies, and we don't sell or share personal information. Your theme, starred races and settings stay on your own device, in your browser's storage or on your TV.
Visit counts
We count visits with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly counter that sets no cookies and stores no personal data. It records the page, the referring site, browser and screen size, and country (plus state, for U.S. visitors), and uses a short-lived hash only to avoid counting the same visit twice. We also count, in total, which viewing mode people use (Big screen, Big video, Explore or the TV app). None of this identifies you, and none of it is sold or shared with sponsors beyond overall totals. Add ?nocount to any address to skip counting.
Where results come from
The site and app download public election results from civicAPI and sitmap.live, and channel listings from YouTube. Those requests go straight from your device to those services, which may log ordinary request details such as your IP address under their own policies.
Hosting and video
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log ordinary request details such as your IP address to run and secure the service, under the GitHub privacy statement. Broadcast players load from YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) only when you play one; YouTube's own policies apply to that video.
Couch Room
When you join a Couch Room, your votes go through ntfy.sh, a public relay, under a random room code and a random voter ID created on your phone. No name or contact details are sent. ntfy.sh keeps messages for about 12 hours and then deletes them.
Children
We don't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
